Rosa acicularis is a species of wild rose in family Rosaceae. It is distributed in the northern regions of Asia, Europe, and North America. Rosa acicularis is commonly known as Prickly Wild Rose, Prickly Rose, Bristly Rose and the Arctic Rose. It grows in open forest, thickets, riverbanks, and clearings. Rosa acicularis is a provincial flower in province Alberta, Canada. It is widespread and common across the NW Ontario region. Rosa acicularis is a deciduous, bushy shrub growing up to 3 maters tall. It has stout stems which are usually covered with straight, weak bristles and straight slender thorns. The leaves are pinnate, 7-14 cm long, with 3-9 ovate leaflets, sharply toothed and hairy below. The single, pink, showy flower is borne on short side branches. Each flower is 5-7 cm wide and bloom in late May to July. The hips are scarlet, ovoid to pear-shaped, and 1-1.5 cm long. The hips are rich in Vitamin C and make excellent jelly.
